Reflect
My Reflection Assignments and my Plan of Action both represent INTASC Standard 9.D.D.This standard is all about being able to evaluate one’s self and these artifacts are prime examples of self evaluation. First, the Reflections are from my Introduction to Early Childhood Education. In the first reflection I wrote on what I personally wanted to gain from the class. This assignment required me to look at what the class could offer me and then look at what skills I had and what skills I knew I wanted. It required looking at what I needed to improve personally and see how the class could meet my needs. The second one was the same and the third I was able to look back at the class and talk about what I had personally gained from the class if anything at all. Self reflection is important and vital and helps us as educators to be constantly fine tuning our craft. My Plan of Action was done for a Foundations of the Classroom class and required me to look at where I was at that moment and write about what I knew, what I was working on knowing, and what I knew I needed to improve in my education to become a teacher. Very much like the Reflection Assignments this artifact required me to look at myself, at my growth and education, and find places where I was lacking and find ways to improve those areas.
Project
In my future practice as a teacher self reflection and evaluation will be an important and vital part of my career. Self reflection is a very important part of being an educator. If we can not reflect on ourselves and evaluate how we are doing and what we need to improve on how are we to evaluate or pupils. Being able to evaluate myself I am constantly looking at where I am and how I can improve. If teachers do not self evaluate then you can get teachers that have old thinking and old ways of doing things, or teachers who are interested in up-to-date theories and practices; and when that happens then the children are not benefiting from that environment. I will always be self evaluating and reflecting because I never want to be lacking and have my students’ educations suffer because of my unchanging ways. We only grow from change and how do you change if you do not know something is wrong.
